So for Visual Culture, I've gotta go to the Vancouver Art Gallery and examine a piece there. To quote; "Select a single artwork from one of the exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Describe it in detail. How was it made? What does it represent visually to you? What does it represent ideologically to you? Discuss how the work has been framed in the space of the gallery. How does its framing implicate you as a viewer?"

I'm pretty short on cash, so this'll have to be interesting. Maybe I'll go down to the Seattle Art Museum again- since the assignment seems contingent only on it being a gallery, I think. Last time I went to the VAG was during Krazie; that anime/manga exhibit. And going to the SAM was during one of my first dates with Adam
I don't actually know what's on at either place, I'll go check that out now. Adam's nooot really much of an art lover, tbh :/ so we'll see (lol i don't even think he knows I have a devart, let alone checks it -sigh- I should post his 3rd birthday present up here, just for the lulz). I may just con into going with me instead.

Going to the SAM was quite literally the best Gallery experience I've ever had. I went twice- on the first Thursday of the month it's free, and I was in Seattle with a friend to go see Fall Out Boy and we had time to kill, so we went there, and omg it was so cool. We were on a schedual though, so we had to leave early. I thought it was so cool, though, that I made Adam go with me again to go and see it. The SAM has a much better suited gallery space than the VAG (which is an old courthouse; low ceilings) There's a series of exploding cars on the ceiling *-*

[link] That's one of the exhibits that was on when we went, and that suit of armor is my favourite piece of sculpture in the history of the universe. It's actually very large- this picture doesn't really do a good job of conveying scale, but this one [link] does.
The piece is called Some/One, and the armor is made out of dog tags (detail: [link]) - just with gibberish printed on them- but it makes such a statement about everything that goes into being an army, and all the lives that contribute to it.
The artist's name is Do Ho Suh- look him up if you get the chance. It actually turned out that I'd seen a previous work of his at the VAG about 5 years previous, and liked that one as well. ("The Perfect Home II - 2003") so it was a bit of serendipity to see his work again and connect with the same artist, however unaware I was at the time >w<
